Have you helped grow and develop a critical employee, and now they are leaving you for another opportunity?
Recently, I had a conversation about this with one of my clients. This client is in a situation where they have given an employee incredible autonomy and great opportunities that other companies might not have given. And as a result, this employee was able to grow and develop quickly. And now, they are leaving the company for another opportunity.
This can be a challenging thing to deal with as a business owner. It sometimes leaves them wondering, “where is the loyalty?”
If you have had something like this happen in your organization, let me encourage you to continue committing to your employees’ training and development. It is easy to feel like the victim when you’ve spent so much time and energy developing someone, and then they leave and take what you have taught them elsewhere. But there is no other reasonable alternative than to provide these kinds of development opportunities.
Building a culture that is great at developing employees makes your organization a desirable place to work.
