For many years in my business, I was obsessed with how I was going to attract more and more business. I attended webinars and conferences, and I read nearly every book, or marketing article that seemed relevant to what I perceived was my most urgent need.
There’s no denying that a business has to maintain business in order to function. Business comes from having customers and reliable cash flow. But behind every organization that is truly thriving and growing is a TEAM.
When I began to prioritize my team as the leader of my company, I began to see small changes starting to happen. My team was more engaged and we started pulling together in a more powerful way. Together we were delivering an exceptional customer experience, fueled by a deeper understanding of our mission and the values driving that mission.
Team meetings and training shifted to be more about the “why” than about the “what.”
Working with my team became even more of a delight to me as I intentionally created more opportunities to genuinely express my appreciation for them and why they mattered so much to me and to our company. In supporting and giving to them more fully, my team began voluntarily supporting and giving back not only to our customers, but also to each other.
The transformation didn’t happen overnight. And it is still ongoing. I am continuing to grow and improve in how I am leading my team. It’s an incredibly rewarding thing to look back over the past several years and see such significant and positive change in our team culture, team loyalty, commitment, and the quality of experience we deliver to our customers.
As I am changing and my team is transforming, so is our business. Something small has blossomed into something incredibly significant: a team I adore, customers we love, and a business that is a delight to operate.
