Do you want your team to develop leaders?
Being a leader is all about accomplishing things through other people. To be a successful leader, you have to establish a clear vision of what needs to be accomplished and then bring other people in the organization alongside to make that vision a reality.
So how do you develop someone in your organization and help that person become a great leader?
Leadership development starts with taking practical, meaningful, small steps with your future leaders. Here are some ideas:
- Allow them to lead smaller teams or smaller groups.
- Put them in situations where they are given specific objectives, guidelines, and timelines.
- Allow them to facilitate a company meeting, lead a company event, or lead a discussion with some of the leaders in the company. This practice is critical for their ability to lead something more significant than that in the future.
Most importantly, make sure to provide feedback after you have given your future leaders these opportunities. Let this turn into a learning experience. Make sure to tell them what they did well and also how they can improve in the future.
