Do you have any employees who exhibit territorial behavior in your organization? These are people who think, “This is my area, and no one else should touch it, analyze it, or participate in it.”
You need to confront this type of behavior. But approach these individuals with kindness and openness. Try to figure out what the root of their defensiveness is. Ask them if they are worried about their performance, or if they are concerned about their job security. Allow them an opportunity to open up to you and explain why they behave this way.
In any case, you can’t allow this territorial behavior to go unchallenged. We need to defeat the “No Trespassing” signs within our organizations.
